Cam thrust plate problems...still

I finally got the correct thrust plate for my new block today, but it was too thick!! I ground it down, but I went slightly too far and broke it. Anyways why would it be too thick?? Am I missing something here??

Paul, was the block machined for the thrust bearing? My last one I used a cam button instead.

Ok here's the deal....I didn't use the bearing, just the plate that bolts to the front of the engine over the cam, but like I said it was too thick. Would I be able to just use a cam button instead?? That kind of worries me. Also is there a possibility that there would be a different cam gear for this block than my last one. This is a four bolt main block and the last one was two bolt mains.

Turf the factory's bizarre roller hallucination, go with what's been working for decades. Use a button.
