Temp hit 250 yesterday! Did i do any long term damage?
Yesterday after work i went to mobil and left the car running while i filled up i get back in the car and i notice my autometer temp gauge is at 245, i pulled out of the gas station fast but by the time i pulled out the temp was about 248. As soon as i started moving the temp dropped fast after about 30 seconds at 50mph i was at 210. I drove around for about 15min and everything seems fine, it didnt overheat, just got hot. My question is did i do any long term damage? it was only above 240 for about 25 seconds and never passed 248. All answers are apreciated thanks.
BTW...
the reason it got so hot is because my fan died.

My fan has died on me a few times in the past as well. I personally haven't noticed any damage as a result of this, so as long as it wasn't too hot for too long then you should be okay. Double check your coolant and oil and whatnot just in case.
BTW... don't leave your car running when you're filling it up.

It scared the crap out of me when i saw the gauge go that high, I was thinking about it all day today. I almost never leave my car running when i fill up, the one time i do this happens. You can be sure ill never do that again lol.
Thanks again

How was your oil pressure when this happened?
I had this happen to me before, when my fans weren't working...it heated up to 260, coolant was boiling and i lost all oil pressure. But like has already been said, if you weren't that hot for very long, nothing likely happened.

oil pressure got pretty low probably 15-20psi at 800rpm idle no lower than that though, under normal temps its about 30-40 psi at idle, 25 if im driving for a long time. Ill never take my eyes off that gauge again. Im starting to wonder if i should change my oil because it got that hot( maybe it broke down), i just changed it like 300 miles ago but i might change it anyway just for piece of mind, do you guys think its nesseccary or am i over exadurating?
Thanks

If you feel the need to change it, I say go ahead and do it. When you do change it though, pay attention to the way it looks. If it looks like chocolate milk, you have coolant and water in the oil and have a problem somewhere that needs to be addressed. If that is the case, then you either have a cracked head or cracked the block from it heating up and then getting on it so fast trying to cool it down.
If that is incorrectly put, someone please correct me.
