A Really odd sound....
A Really odd sound....
Is coming from the tail-end of my 86.
Sounds like the beginning of an old siren or something. Could something in the rear-end be going?
It's noticeable from 40 on up to 70-80 (dont usually go faster than that)...but only when I'm actually using the accelerator.. I let off, and the whining stops...
Any ideas?

It sounds like what I have heard about rear end gears going, or possible drive shaft outta balance. That's all I can tell ya without hearing it myself.

Sounds like a pinion bearing.
They only make noise when you are on the throttle.

Mine makes noise when you let off the throttle :/ planning on switching the rear to one that has disc brakes and posi within the month
Next Question:
WTF is a pinion bearing?

Seriously...its kept up fairly non-stop for about a month or so now...and I dont think the highway jaunt at 110 earlier did it any good.
What kinda damage can this do/or is it doing?

ttt again.
Now the bastard doesn't seem to have park either.
The *click* that used to be there when going from park to reverse, or reverse to park isnt there anymore.
And 75% of the time, the car wants to keep rolling when it's supposedly in park.
WTF?!?!?!

Since the car will not lock the transmission in "park", I would suspect that you have a transmission problem. That problem could also be associated with the whining noise you mentioned earlier although I have only heard that noise with manual transmissions because of the gears meshing - some can be quite loud. The rear end, as pointed out above, would sound more logical to me in that regard. How does the transmission fluid look and smell?
The reason you lost the locking function in "park" may be something as simple as a poorly adjusted shifting linkeage, but since you also have the whining sound, I doubt that its that simple.
Whatever it is, it sounds like it'll be expensive.

Vader, I believe illustration A is incorrect. His car, being an 86, would have 26 spline axles...
Seriously brotha, stay away from the comp. for a little while! I think all that anti-sieze on your pancakes is making you crazy.
