Body Weight?

If you replace the body parts(Hood, doors, quarter panals) Would this geatly increase the performance of our cars.. I know our cars weight any where from 3000 to 3800 easy. Of course the engine and frame are the biggest factors... but what what else can you replace with newer(lighter) materals to make our cars faster....

The reason... Newer cars.. samll engines but light weight...fast.. If you tried to put their engine in our car.. no way it could push it like our engine does.....

any suggestions? Thanks

Front fenders don't weigh much. Doors do. A fiberglass hood only saves about 50lbs.

It's the little things that add up. I got mine down to 3180lbs with all seats, power windows and locks inplace. Everything else had been removed. Fiberglass hood. Aluminum waterpump, heads and intake. No heater core or aircond.

The doors have a steel crash bar that weighs about 25 lbs by itself. Once you add up the glass and everything, each door is probably almost 100 lbs.

The moderator (Stephen 87 IROC) has taken many parts out of his doors for racing. But they significantly affect crash protection. http://www.hardtail.com/
