CODE45

Hello!
My 1990 GTA had trouble code 45 about 2 hours ago.
He made a noise like Harley Davidson's motorcycles and vibrated like a V7 engine.
Do you think what's the cause?
Help me ,please!

Billy,

Welcome aboard!

The '45' is caused by a rich fuel mixture indication at the oxygen sensor. Since you had rough operation and likely had some exhaust smoking, you probably had a truly rich condition.

It is not often that an oxygen sensor fails in that mode. Generally it will give a lean mixture reading as it begins to fail. I would suspect that the sensor is operating correctly and sensed a rich condition. The difficulty will be in determining the cause of the rich condition.

It's possible that the fuel pressure regulator is sticking or damaged. You may also have a sticking injector. Since your '90 should not have a cold start injector, that is not a possibility. I'm not certain if the exports changed at the same time as the domestic systems, so I only mentioned that in case there is a difference.

You could also have a highly restriced air filter element from debris or a large amount of dust. I would suspect that this would have also set a MAP error code (33 or 34) but it may not have.

Thank you for your help, Mr.Vader.

I changed air filter a week ago.
So it's not the cause, I think.

The cars for export to JAPN have same system as US domestic model in operating systems.
The differences between domestic and export model are only exteriors, probably.

Sorry for my improper ENGLISH.
