How do I know if Computer is bad??

I have the SES light to stay on all the time and I have tried the ALDL wire to read the codes and I get nothing but the light staying on. I also have the car quit idling like its in limp home mode however it just fixed started idling on its own.......also have timing jumping to 12* BTDC at idle...

BF,

Disconnect power to the ECM, either by removing the ECM power fuse or disconnecting the battery. Waint ten minutes and reconnect. Test the ECM for codes before you crank the engine.

Well Vader it will still not thow a code. I will still not Idle (unless I crank the idle screw out) and at Idle I am getting 12* advance on the timing with the base correctly set at 6* ( set the base with the wire pulled it just jumps up itself on the computer)
