alternator brakets......do i need them?

i just swapped in a 350 that has tall valve covers on them. I already had to do a little custom work just to get the alternator to fit. Now something seems to be draining the battery. I just bought an alternator and a new battery, and it still has the same problem. Now before i spend more money, are the brakets grounds? or are they for stability? I'm sure u guys can help, you know everything. Thanks.

diffantly for stability, and yes, they serve as ground too. If you've freshly painted them, clean it up alittle. BUT, I don't think that would cause your drainage problem. Try hooking a multi-meter between your positive cable, and the positive terminal of the battery (with car/key off). Look at the amount of amps being drawn. Now start pulling fuses until the drain drops, and you've now found at least which circuit the problem is coming from. Keep in mind, their will be a very small amount of power always being drained, the ECM and your Stereo will always require alittle for memory.
