400 sb?
did they ever make a 400 small block with a 1- piece seal? looking for emmission reasons.
There are adapters made that convert a 2 pc seal to a 1 pc and a 1 pc to a 2 pc. I dont remember who it is that makes these but I know they are being produced. dont know if that helps?

There are adapters to put a 2 piece RMS crank into a 1 piece RMS block, but not the other way around. It sounds like he needs a later block to pass off as an original engine to pass a visual inspection.

If its getting inspected i belive the only way to tell if its not a 305/350 is the casting number, and the balancer(has some extra holes in it for the external balance). I dont think any inspecter is going to notice either, plus both could befixed or covered up, a cover on the balancer, or some home made crud for the casting number.

305's 350's and 400's are all small block chevys, so they all look exactly the same (within reason) its the bore diamter and such thats different, theres no way short of running casting numbers that an inspector could tell

some inspector who really knows SBC's might notice the diffrent # of freeze plugs but that and the balencer are the only external diffrances
