My wife's old cavalier had a starter that turned slow. I replaced a bad starter and when I started it back up it took a long time to start because it was like Zero out and the computer was in limp home mode or whatever (because I had disconnected the battery, of course). It turned over slow after that. then the car overheated once. After that it wouldn't turn the car over fast enough to even start. I figured out that I had hurt the starter that first time I cranked on it so long to get it to start and it always cranked slow after that. The overheating of the engine was the straw that broke the camels back (a good analogy for that p.o.s. car
).
