Is this distributor going to fit in the firewall???
I am really worried, after looking at how friggin huge it is on the manifold. It's about 1" lower than the carb, on an air-gap intake. It's a coil-in-cap dizzy, also. I hope I hope I hope it fits!

I don't have the stock one handy to compare.

With the engine in the stock location, the large cap HEI will fit. I even used one with my BBC. I have to use a small MSD distributor now because of the tunnel ram and the engine has been moved back

It will fit just fine. I have almost the exact set up as you. Vortec heads w/air gap manifold. I will be using a 454 tbi to run the engine. If it does not work, I will be using my backup...carb.

Doesn't matter what kind of manifold you use; the dist ends up in the same place. It still has to mesh with the dist gear and fit in the block and drive the oil pump.
Duh.
That dist was stock for these cars from 82 to 86. It will fit fine. Not even close to interfering with the firewall.

That is a close call but it does fit.
Just remember to remove that thing if you ever pull the trans or yank the motor. The motor will rock back and jam it into the fire wall. Not good.
Why I prefer to just install the distributor in the front of the motor.
Much easier to work on and it doesn't get in the way. You can set the motor back some too. Its becoming a popular mod. Did it to my wagon.
$150-$300 mod depending on your connections.

Looks like your new engine is coming together pretty fast! How's the whole assembling the motor in the back of your Buick going for yah now? Still manageable?
Curious how you plan to put the motor into the car once you have it assembled though hehe.

If that were my distributor, I know it wouldn't fit unless I got a NON-DROP air cleaner/element. What kind of air cleaner is on the new engine?
