Hard to start when hot
I have 83 firebird 305, carb
Here is a problem I can't figure out that been going on for about a week. When the car is warm, its hard to start! The engine is hard to turn over. It aint the starter. I had it tested, passed with flying colors, cleaned and tightend the connections. Other in my Haynes manual says carb. Checked it out and its fine. And the battery is fully charged, so thats ruled out. I did change my distributer from a junkyark. I had a vacume advance when I shouldn't had one, so I got the right one. I got a code 42 from the computer (ignition circut). I canged the Ignition Modual (3 diffrent ones from the junkyard and all worked .WTF!!!

Hard starts when hot are commonly (but not always as Vader was trying to get at I'm sure) the starter being too close to the exhaust pipes and becoming more resistant to any electricity, thus slowing the starter down increasingly.
The starter can test good, but it's when the starter is being "heat soaked" (as it's commonly called) that it when the voltage doesnt get through.
The cure : re-route exhaust to farther from the starter
or the more common one
get an LT1 starter, or any other mini-starter.
I'm still curious what your symptoms are though before you go out and just buy a mini starter lol.

My symptoms are its hard to turn the engine over when the engine is warm, like if the battery is low, but the batt. is fine. I would like to re-route the manifold, but I don't think I can do that in a day. I'm going to try to use a heat shield for the starter.
