top end annoyance ..

Would anyone be able to tell me how to cure what sounds as if something under the drivers side valve cover it hitting the top of it, loose valve perhaps, broken spring ? .... where would i begin looking to find what exactly is causing it, it seemed to get better after warming up, but now it's constant ... the noise seems to get faster as the rpm's get higher ..... like a really fast tick .... doesn't seem to hurt performance much ... but is very annoying.

Remove the valve cover and do a visual inspection. Look for any abnormalities, anything broken, one thing that is not like the others, etc. If all checks out, try resetting the vavle lash.
