That's the ZZ4 cam. Just put one into a 305 (87 L69) a couple of weeks ago, with 1.6 rockers.

Works fine.... as long as you put in valve springs that can take it, and make sure you have clearance from the bottom of the retainers to the top of the valve guides.

You'll need "retrofit" hyd roller lifters, of course; and different push rods. Probably about .400" shorter than the ones that are there, maybe .500", it depends on which lifters you end up with.

It doesn't lope, to speak of.

It will run clockwise, if installed correctly; and will produce HP & torque.

Hope so!

That's a pricey cam setup, switching over to hydraulic roller... After buying the cam, lifters, pushrods, etc.... That won't be too cheap anymore...

HP depends on lots of other stuff.... major head porting ? etc.

simply put.... dont do it.

It IS a nice cam, probably not going to give you the sound that you're going for... which brings me to a question...

Do you want the cam for the sound that it'll make? Or for the performance gains?

You can get cams that sound basically just like a stock cam at idle, but are a hundred times better all over the powerband compared to the stock cam.

Or if all that you're looking for is a cam that will be too big for your motor, so you can have that lumpy, agressive sounding idle that says "race me" or "can I have a ticket for speeding, PLEASE?!" .

Typically that lumpy idle isnt a good thing, when you diminish your idle quality, and MPG, and overall streetability of your car... for a SOUND, then you've got what you want coming to you. Karma works in mysterious ways I guess :-P

That's true when the lumpy idle is due to a long duration cam, but you can get a pretty decent lope at idle with reasonable manners by using a cam with a tight LSA.

True Apeiron, I should have mentioned that, but was trying to prove a point

yeah i should if not i can get them easy, what would be in the 80-85 305( haven't touched the valvetrain) if not i'll pull them from another engine. Would the stock rockers and pushrods be okay, how much of a valve spring would be required for 5000rpm

80-85 motors won't have roller lifters. No roller lifters you can get out of a stock motor will work in a 80-85 motor; unless you just happen to luck into a 86-back motor with "retrofit" rollers in it, just laying around.

You'll be needing a set of these. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...CCA%2D853%2D16
