I built a 383 with vortec heads with great hp and a ton of torque
I used a comp cams 274XE cam and ported the heads. the vortec heads are weak on the exhaust side so port the crud out of the exhaust side but the intake only needs the throat opened up,bowls blended and the short side turn smoothed

I have to agree with the dude that flies with junk . Vortec are the way to go. Personally I think that alluminum heads aren't worth the hassle, especially since just about every 3rd gen Camaro likes to run hotter than it should.
