89 and 86 starters interchangable?

My starter died finally and I have a spare one with a lifetime warranty on it. Its from a 1989 V6 firebird and its going in a 1986 Trans Am 5.0L FI.

With factory transmissions...NOPE. They have different mounting to them. Besides...they are both less than $40 so I wouldn't go through the trouble of trying to get a used one that will work. Just go buy a new one.

Well seeing how I have a spare one that is under a year old with a lifetime warranty and no way to get to the parts store I figured it was worth a shot.
