Last weekend I started to take out the plastic boxes that the AC connects to at the firewall, the AC has been out but I was trying to free up some clutter. I disconnected some wires are there any wires near this area that control the fan motor.

Depending on the year of your car there are some relays on the firewall including the cluth fan relay. This has to be working in order for the fan to work. Look in your manuel to find out which relay is for the fan.

Oh, I just noticed you got the '86 like me I just noticed. Second relay from the fender is the fan clutch relay. Should be square no bigger than a nickle. Most aftermarket relays will do the job.
