Using a L31 Vortec short block as the basis of my 383 build up.
Given that the Vortec PM rods are apparently the same ones as used in the LTX / ZZ4 engine(GM rated to 450Hp ) ;
would you use these or buy Scat forged 4130 I beams ones?
Trying not to spend money on parts I don't have to have.

 

What kind of power do you plan to make? And at what rpm? NA?

 

Go with Scat I-beams with capscrews. They will much better for clearance.

 

Am building a street / mostly strip 383 broadly based around the proven modified versionsof the Fastburn /ZZ4 crate engines.
Have accumulated same or better parts
Have 4 bolt Vortec block , 113 and TFS 195 heads , ZZ4 and ZZ9 cams , LT4 springs ,Magnum rockers,Vic Jnr converted to EFI.
Looking to build strong consistant engine , prob undercammed with the cams I have but potential to add more cam.

Salle Chevrolet have a engine that makes 464Hp @ 6100 / 440FTlb . (Max rpm 6500 )
Uses stock ZZ4 short block with the PM rods. AFR 195s ,
Vic Jnr ,"846" cam and 1.5 rockers,750 carb.
Only 10.1:1 CR.
If I can get 400+ reliably I will be happy.

 

i went with the scat 7/16" capscrew I beam 6" rods for my build.got an awesome price on ebay from racers outlet or dirt track thunder.can't remember which.under 230 bucks shipped.
went with them for clearance and strength reasons.VERY nice rods!
