Camaro Manuals

Hey guys, I'm in need of an owners manual for an 88 camaro IROC convertible. Any recommendations as to which ones do a decent job of explaining things and where I could get them? any help will be appreciated, thanks

I've got both Haynes and Chilton's books.

And I have to refer to both of them to get the answers sometimes.

Chilton's covers a tiny tiny bit about the ragtop and trunk where haynes does not.

One covers this and the other covers that.
If ya buy one then you'll wind up buying the other as well.

I'll have to check into that Helms book. Haven't heard of that one yet.

I bought both the Haynes and Chilton's book off of Ebay.
Or you might be able to get them at half.com as well.
Both manuals cover 82-92 camaros.

alright thanks guys, and now i got more questions for you. I just recently bought the car a week ago and have noticed that there's white smoke coming from the tips constantly. At startup it's visible, but eventually it dies down to the point where u have to look a little harder to see the smoke but it's still there. Any ideas of how to fix it? I was thinking maybe the oil needs to be changed, which I was going to do next week sometime, and also filled up the coolant. Tas on the exhaust board said it could be coolant getting into the chamber from either a bad head gasket or cracked head. I checked it out and there is something cracked but I don't know what it is, where is the head located or if needed i can get a pic real quick, or any other reasons why this happens?? And one more stupid question, don't laugh, how in the world do you use the highbeams, I didn't know how so i fiddled with that light rod thing and eventually got them to work somehow but i don't know how i did it now i can't get them back down to the normal beams, how do i change that? thanks for the help guys

I have no clue as to what you said light rod.....

We have a 91 Vert and your car may be different, but on our car the highbeam is on the turnsignal lever.

Pull back once and highbeams come on. Pull back again and highbeams go off.

As for the white smoke.

I'm no expert, but it's sounds like water vapor to me as well.
And from the sounds of it you have already found your answer when you found that crack.

well not light rod per se. It's on the dash on the left hand side of the steering wheel, just a **** that you pull out to turn on the lights, and right underneath it is the fog lamps switch. Those two things are right next to teh gauges, anyone know what i'm talking about? and i've tried pulling back on the turnsignal lever but it won't go back, not made that way

Hey thanks for the link to helminc!

just checked it out and the manual is a whopping $90.00!!! OMG!!

But, I guess it's worth every penny.

Guess I'm gonna have to start saving some more pennies.

Does anyone know if the manual covers anything regarding the covertible top?

Ok, I know where you are talking about.

Again, we have different cars but....

Is it possible that the highbeams are connected with the fog lamps?

Have you tried turning off your foglights to see if your highbeams go off?

The only two places I've ever seen a higbeam switch was either on the floor board (very old cars) and on the turnsignal switch lever.

(edit)
Ok, here's a really bass ackwards thought.

Since I've already proven I don't know what I'm talking about.

Could it be that in the 88 there's a 3 position switch vs a two postion switch in out 91?

Example:

Pull once and the parking lights come on, pull again and the headlights come on, pull again and the highbeams come on.

Sitting here thinking about it....it makes no sense to me, but I've seen engineers comes up with some pretty wierd stuff in the past.

haha, well thanks for trying but it's still a two position switch. once for parking lights and a second for reg lights/highbeams. As for the fog lamps, if I turn them on when the parking lights are on, they come on. Now if the regular lights were on the fog lamps would work properly, on/off as normal. Now that the highbeams are stuck the fog lamps DO NOT come on regardless of wether the switch is in the on or off position. I'm really frustrated and can't believe i don't know how to turn the highbeams off

Well, at least I got the fog lamps go off when the high beams are on thing right.

I'm gonna have to go back to the turnsignal lever again.

In one of my older cars you pushed forwards on the turn signal lever to switch on the highbeams. You pulled backwards to flash the highbeams.
One of those euro things..

Is it possible that your turn signal lever is pushed forwards??

Since you have already mentioned that you've tried to pull it back I guess I'm wrong again.

Ok, this is really starting to bug me now!!

I'm gonna feel like such an idiot when someone here tells you the right way.

I don't think this is bugging you as much as it's bugging me. No dice with the pushing forward thing. Perhaps a moderator could help? I'm desperate and it's really annoying how something so simple as highbeams is frustrating. Can't wait to get to the mods.......gonna be fun times

Is it remotely possible that your floormat is covering up the highbeam switch on the floorboard??

If there is a highbeam switch on the floorboard it should be where you put your left foot.

I only remember highbeam switches being located in two places.

The floorboard and the turn signal switch.

No highbeam switch on the floorboard, I took out the floormats earlier today because I was cleaning the inside of my car, thats when i realized about the highbeams. But just in case I double checked and there's nothing there, any other ideas? also triple checked with the 3 stage pull rod, pushing and pulling the turn signal lever, and fooling around with the hazard lights, fooling with the fog lamps, anything and everything that has come to my mind so far yet still nothing
