oil filter adapter on an 85 block?

I have an 85 block (305) and i'm trying to get the oil filter situated. The block has an area where the filter shoudl go, but nothign to attach it to. I bought an oil filter adapter kit, but it doesnt seem like it has everything, is there something else that needs to go with the adapter? The bolts i got with the kit are too small to fit in the block. The adapter fits great, but it just doesnt seem correct. What am i missing?

you need an adapter and 2 bolts. i'd guess since GM went to the spin on filter not much has changed in the ways of the adapter, except maybe for the addition of the oil cooler.

It's not really an "adapter", but a combination relief valve and screw-on nipple.

What's typically sold as an "adapter" is to adapt a canister-type block to take a spin-on filter. An '85 block just needs the relief valve held on with two bolts. It doesn't even have a gasket or o-ring.

How did you come up short this part? Any reason you haven't checked out getting one from the dealer?

You might also post a wanted in the classifieds on this Board.
