Wierd starter problem
I have had this starter problem for a while but it is getting progressivly worse. Before it would take a few turn of the key, each time I turned it I would get a clink from the starter but after 4-5 times it would ALWAYS start. In the past few days not it will not start for 15-20min. The times it does this seems completely random independent of temp, length from last start etc. The starter was recently replaced. Could this be a computer problem? bad starter alignment? The wires seem fine to me; any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it making a screeching sound? Mine just all of a sudden started doing this today. I could not get the starter to turn the motor over. I jacked the car up and took the starter off and inspected everything. The flexplate looks fine and the starter seemed to look alright. I took it back to Autozone where I bought it and the guy there tested it and said it seemed to be bad but wasn't sure because his machine was screwed up. I told him that I'd like a new one. He jacked around for a while and came back to say he didn't have one with that goes on an 83 Camaro. I asked him if he could give me one that will fit any 350 or 305 so I could try it. He tried to sell me one. He wouldn't give it to me. The starter that I took in has a lifetime warranty. I got mad and left.
Sorry, I'm just venting. I always have trouble with Autozone.
As for your starter I'd definitely try another one if your flexplate looks good.
