A/C removal
A/C removal
I have an 89 305 TBI, and the freon has of course completely leaked out. However it is
a t-top, so instead of upgrading to the newer
AC stuff, I want to just pull the AC entirely, so I can save myself from parasitic power loss. However, I am not a genius mechanic. (I'm working on it). What would be invovled in removing the AC from my engine? Do I just remove the belt, unscrew the huge pump, and install a shorter belt? Up until now the largest thing I've done on my own is replace the thermostat and install a faster chip, so if you decide to help me out, please keep it simple.
Thanx,
Henry

Yeah, just pull all of the stuff out. You can loose a good deal of weight too by taking out all of the stuff, not just the compressor. Most autoparts stores sell belts for cars w/o AC, just go down there and buy one, it shouldn't be too hard to install.

im not sure about the serpentine system...but for starters i assume that it is very likely you will need a different length belt with the A/C gone...unless you get some sort of AC delete pully...second on the vbelt systems the power steering pump is partially dependant on the ac bracket for support, and so when i did what you are doing i need an ac delete bracket...just a few thoughts

You WILL need the A/C delete pulley if you have a 89. Check Jim Pace, thats where I got mine.
