How hot did the engine get when the gasket blew? Did you change the oil afterwards? A little bit more info on what happened exactly (ie. were you driving and it suddenly blew on the outside, or did it start leaking down into the block, etc) and what all you did after the gasket change would help immensely.

Taking apart the top of your engine, just one wrong thing and you've lost the performance you had. Unless you really screw up and it won't start at all.
Think back, action by action, on what exactly you did. Just a thought, but listen at the back and front of the intake manifold. Those little 'gaskets' *HAH!* tend to be notorious for leaking after a rebuild. Did you put a little bit of RTV on the corners to help them seal? Even a little leak would hurt performance terribly.
