strange problem...

when i started my car to go to work, the car was idling at 2500 rpm, and normaly it idles around 1200. It wouldn't go down unless I put it in gear and let the clutch out some.. And the speedometer wouldn't work.. and it seemed to lack alot of power, and when i would rev it up it would hit like 4750 rpm then hit 7000 on the tach without the engine reving up... when i turned it off, the tach stayed at 2500 rpm.... i went out a little later and it worked normal again, speedo and everything worked fine...
it did have the ses light on when it was acting up, but when i scanned the code after it was working normal again all i got was 12's.... so, is this something wrong with the computer? i always thought it kept the codes for a while.. it rained prety hard last night.. so maybe something got wet or something.. anybody have any ideas what might have happened? I'd like to make sure it dosen't happen again any time soon...

Does the engine really sound like it is at 2500 at idle? It sounds like you've got some sort of ignition problem. Unplug the batter for a while and restart, see if you get any codes. Check the connections on the distributor and the coil.
