problems with battery

i have a 83 camaro z28. it has the lg4 engine. in the cold the engine wont start. i think it has something to do with my battery. when i turn the key the engine will turn over for about 10 seconds and then the battery will die, but then when i jump it it starts right up. ive talkied to some peole and they said that the battery cells might be dead and that it might be affecting the cold cranking amps or that i might not have enough cold cranking amps in the first place. so please tell me what i can do to see whats wrong with it before i go bye a new battery.

If the battery is sealed there really isn't too much that you can do. However, if the battery has two covers on the top, you can pry them up and check the levels of the water. If the water level is too low you should be able to just top it off with some distilled water. The battery is probably just shot and should be replaced.

Get a new battery. Walmart sells them reasonably and warranties them no questions asked. Your current battery is probably only 500cca or so. Get a 750cca, you'll like it better.
