Spark Knock

Ok Iam old school, these computers drive me nuts! Anyhow Ive got an 87 Iroc with 305 tpi. the car seems to run fine until I put the pedal to the floor, Iam getting real bad spark knock, and the check engine light comes on. Then the damn thing loses power, and i limp it home. Wait a few minutes start it back up its fine. Car runs great as long as I dont push it to much i.e. Passing gear.

Passing gear.
Yup. You're old school allright. You might want to check the inital timing if you have a timing light. There is a timing bypass connector you have to disconnect, first, though, it's right by the firewall, coming out of the wire harness on the pass. side. you can't miss it. Timing should be set to 6 deg. Also, check to see what code was set with the SES light. ( Do a search, it's been covered many times) HTH.
