What is a good street cam for 89- 5.7
I am going to rebuild my 89 GTA this winter and I see allot of different ideas for cams.First I will say I will be using roller lifters thats a must. Second I will be running the stock 3.27 gears. I will be rebuilding the trans also and might put a 2500 stall speed?? I want the car to run in the 1500 to 5200 rpm range. I do plan on headers and new runners. I will also change the injectors to corvette. So what is a good cam to give the car a little more zip but not idea like a tractor?

I have a Crane Powermax (formerly known as Compucam), and although flat tappet and carb, I was pleasantly surprised with the idle quality. I expected to have to keep it at 700-800 RPMs (vs. the 500 stock), but it idles fine at 550 like the stock LG4 setup did.
The roller version w/TPI should only be that much better.
My cam should max out at 6000 (I've only had it up to 5600 due to transmission and "test track" limits). Keeping your max RPMs to 5200 should again only help idle quality.
Give Crane a call. I'm sure they'll do the job for you. Just avoid making the same mistake Chevy High Performance made with their "My Generation Camaro" by getting much too small of a cam.

Oh, the higher stall converter is a good idea, not sure it would have to be that high, though.
Also, just go with an adjustable fuel pressure regulator and save yourself the money on the injectors. Get your current parts checked out and flow matched if you want, that should be more than enough.
