Got the Car Back More Probloems
Ok i have an 83 camaro with a 2.8 carbd with a 3spd auto. the problems..... It has been sitting for 8 months at a tranny shop while solving some issues. Now i have a wire that got burnt on my exaust manifold and hove no where for it to go to but now the check engine light is on and i cant pull any codes from it??? I think that is the biggest problem have no idea where it goes!! Also now when i shut the car off it back fires.... Does the car need to be " cleaned out " in other words driven or is it something else then of course it could be something to do with that wire please help me!!!! Thanks in advance

As far as the backfiring goes, check your timing and your carb tuning. If it diesels and/or backfires, typically its a combination of both. FOr the wire, look for the other end! If it was burnt in half, there should be another side. The only wire that I recall running under the headers is for the temp sensor on the block. What side was it on? If you can find it, splice the wires, run them away from the exhaust, and disconnect the battery to reset the ECM. That should clear the code, as I recall.

the wires are on the passenger side i have searched and searched for the other end if whatever it was connected to has to be a plastic connector its two wires loomed togeather. I tried reseting the computer didnt work i even bought a bran d new computer and that didnt fix it either im totally lost but it is affecting my car i wish i could get some sort of code out of the darn thing any ideas thanks

sounds to me like it's the O2 sensor. Thats probably the only thing I can think of with a wire that connects to the exhaust manifold

The air diverter valve will not give you the CES light, so it must be something else.
Double check your wire going to the O2 sensor.

the burn wires plug into some sort of thin for the smog pump i tried plugging them in there are two ways to do it and neither made any difference. so yes i did replace them but no change the check engine light didnt go off either.

k still havent done anything with my timing but i did find a very large vacum leak so that fixed the probem of almost stalling from a dead stop to WOT but the car is still dieseling as far as still sucking to much gas i dont knwo yet i will let you know on that later. so is it my timing or is my car running to rich??

Don't forget that having the idle speed set too high can also cause dieseling.

the idle is definatly not to high when i found the vacume leak this morniing it was a open tpipe on the driver side rear so i am assuming that something had to of onnected to that so i will look for that then i will try the old propane trick thanks in advance keep it coming

Let me rephrase.
Your idle speed could be low because of poor running even though the throttle angle is excessively open.
A large vacuum line on the rear usually goes to the power brake booster.
