Specs for building an 88' 350 Engine

I am builing my first engine and need to know where I can find information on how to put it together. I would like to know bolt torue, tolerances, and so forth. I have an 88' 350 block that has been bored 40 over. The pistons, rods, and crack were all matched to fit. So, basically I just need to put it together. A book would be optimal but anything would work. This is my first engine and I want to make sure to do it correct. Thank you for your help!!!

You're on the right track. Buy one of the "How to" build a small block chevy books....it will be your most valuable tool if you have'nt done an engine build before. It'll also give you torque specs and a lot of helpful pointers.

You'll be asking for different specs 30 times a day on this board without one.

When I rebuilt my first Dodge engine (yes Dodge), I bought a "How to" book. It helped ALOT. That trusty 318 2 brrl I rebuilt for my Charger is probably still running somewhere.

Another book I highly reccomend to novice engine builders is
"Building Max Performance Smallblocks On A Budget",by David Vizard. It does not contain the specs you need,so you need a manual as well, but there is a lot of great information on squeezing the cheap and/or free power out of your build.

As far as a manual,I really like the Haynes manual,it's an invaluable source for the torque specs your needing,as well as sequence diagrams, etc.

Good luck, nothing sounds sweeter than hearing your first self built engine fire!

The sound of the beer (or whatever your drink of choice may be) you crack open afterwards, knowing you did it yourself sounds pretty good, too.

Thank You!

You guy's are great! I went ahead and ordered all of the books you recommended from Amazon.com.

I also took note of the beer afterwards! Quite a few will be consumed in the process of building it as well. I will make sure to post pics and audio of when it gets fired up!!!

Thanks again,
Josh
