Comments on engine mods?
I have a 1992 CSB 350 TBI engine LO5 (not LT1) from a Chevy Caprice wagon, wich I intend to use in my hotrod.
With the original setup, the factory data say 190 hp.
How much power increase can I expect with these modifications:
-Swap the TBI system with an Airgap alu intake, Holley Street Avenger 650 cfm, large KN air filter and HEI distributor.
-Full length headers with 1 5/8 primary tubes.
-2 x 2,5" exhaust with flowmaster (or similar) mufflers.
I will also remove the AC pump, PS pump and belt driven cooling fan, and use a manual T56 transmission. (I know these changes don't actually increase the power. They just make more power coming out where I want it)
When I've done this i also know the cam is next, so why do I not change the cam too? Well, if I change the cam, the next logical step will be the heads (change or modiy), and then the "new" cam isn't optimal anymore.
The plan is to drive with the first mentioned setup first. Than later I will change to a pair of Vortec heads modified to handle higher lift and a cam who suit that setup. And where will that bring me when we talk about horsepower?
