Have a problem I am trying to fix...starts to run like crap after about 15 minutes...
I just got my car back from a transmission rebuild, and most of the way home it started acting really weird. it was hesitating when i stepped on the gas and would idle around 250 rpm when i stopped, 250 not 2500. anyways, gas was a little low so i thought that might have been it, i filled it back up and it was fine. later i went out to drive it again to get some good pics and it was all fine. started right up and left the parking lot. it started hesitating and jumping rpms again, and idling extremely low. i turned it off for a minute and then it would not start back up, when i stopped trying it would run for like a half second. anyways i looked under the car and i see the cat glowing cherry red inside (the tranny place didnt put my exhaust back together well). there was a little backfiring during the crappy idle as well. anyways i left it there, and drove back to check on it an hour later and it was fine. drove it the rest of the way home and it was fine. had some friends come over today to check it out assuming it was a fuel pump or something, but that wasnt right...and it seemed like it was getting too much gas. anyhow, we called up some people, checked the trouble codes and heres what we got. code 41 and code 23. one is for manifold air temperature sensor (which my mechanic supposedly replaced a couple months ago) and incorrect ecm or memcal. this was never a problem before. anyhow it would run fine for like 15 minutes and when you put a lot of strain on it, it would turn the ses light back on and just sound like crap until it just stalled out. we linked it to being a fried ignition module and coil pack. does this sound like a possibility? also, what else could be wrong. i know im at least gonna have to replace the cat (or just get a cutout to put there
) but anyways, we got the 2 parts, just havent done anything with them yet. also, i can get a hold of a free complete accel distributor, and i can go to the pick and pull junkyard tomorrow to try and upgrade to an external coil distributor (i wanna go stealth ram eventually). does it sound like we are on the right track? and what else should we check? thanks a lot for the help.

A 23 is for a disconnected/open MAT sensor or circuit.
A 41 is for an EST system not receiving distributor pulses.
Neither of those have anything to do with an incorrect MEMCAL or ECM. I'd start diagnosing the two error codes, and check the exhaust system for restriction. The glowing cat could be from restriction and/or the rich mixture resulting from the engine running in Backup Fuel mode.

no, the feul pump is fine. turns on normally every time and doesnt make any noises. so its possible the clog isnt clogged? its definantly running too rich right now. i just looked at my gm manual and it said 41 was something about the ecm or memcal. i figured it had nothing to do with it. would the MAT sensor have anything to do with this problem? im still thinking its these 2 distributor parts. and like i said i can grab a whole new complete accel unit for free if i wait till the weekend. but today im going to the pick and pull to see if i can get a cheap one, and hopefullly that will fix the problem. then i will run that until i get the accel in. ill keep you updated. i was planning on getting a cutout anyways, so the cat thing isnt really a big deal to me, just wondering if i gotta do it now.
