2.8

i just bought an 89 firebird with the 2.8 and a spun rod bearing. the car accelerates extremely rough but seems to do better in higher rpm's, and the car is extremely loud. does it sound like all my cylinders are firing. with a spun rod bearing i dont think its should be this bad. there is no backfiring and doesnt die when idling. theres also a burning type smell, but my oil/tranny/ and coolant levels are all fine and dont appear to be leaking. tommorow i think im gonna change the oil and put something thicker in, anybody have any suggestions?

Why does Carlo Mencia's 'da-da-daaahh!' come to mind? C'mon, this has got to be a troll. 'I have a motor with a fragged bearing, it isn't running right what should I do to get it to run right?' C'mon!

you guys are ******. i wasnt asking how to get it to run right, more like if there was anything i could possibly do to help extend the life of this thing until my rebuilt engine is ready. i dont know if the question just made too much sense or couldnt squeeze through your thick *** heads.

Bananas in the crankcase. If that doesn't help, try sawdust.

fear, calling anyone names isn't helping, but i'll give you a few tips anyway:

old farmers, and re*necks seem to always know the solution to this type of problem.
run really thick oil, like straight 30w mixed with gear oil. that'll quiet down the motor and fill those huge bearing gaps, temporarily. Throw in some GM EOS too, might buy you a bit of time.

Good suggestion, but i'd go for even thicker oil.

You guy are missing the whole post. While I was having some fun with it, seriously, he alludes that it's running worse than just having a knock. I think it should have been expected that a car than blew a bearing was probably not well maintained, so not only are you buying the fragged bearing, you bought all the other crap that isn't right as well, then you come on here to have us figure out what's wrong. Just sits odd on me.

We all know it's on its last leg, but you can't argue with r*dneck ingenuity! Besides, he's only looking to get a couple more miles out of it...right. But like I always say..."To each his own". It's not gonna hurt me if the motor frags.

No, but I'm glad someone brought that up... heaven forbid it hurts someone else if he's stupid and puts it on the highway or something similar. If he does hurt anyone, I just pray someone posts it here so I can call the DA and offer my testimony.

Disconnect the knock sensor as it will pick up the rod knock and interpret it as detonation.
