please help me identify a part...
sorry i don't have a digital camera to take pictures for bear with me. while i was removing my a/c system on my V8 305 v-belt set-up, i noticed a very slender ~coat hangerish~ metal rod that connects to another one via a rubber elbow and it goes down the passenger side and eventually ends up plugging into something next to the starter.
the reason i ask is that it came loose a couple of times and it plugs into the elbow all snuggly, but it doesn't seem to fit snuggly down by the starter. is this going to be a problem for me?

Sounds like the EFE valve vacuum line....
It's actually not a rod, it's tubing.
There's a sort of flapper valve in the pass sid exhaust manifold outlet. That tube goes to that valve. When closed, the valve forces the pass sides cyls' exhaust up over the top of the motor, through a passage in the intake manifold, and out the driver's side exhaust manifold. It's for faster warm-ups, and lower emissions during warm-up. It's controlled by a temp vacuum switch in the water outlet. Vacuum is allowed to pass through the tube and operates the valve when the engine is cold.
The CA smog ***** will DEFINITELY check to see that it's hooked up when you go through smog.
