416 Heads

Did all the 1985 Camaro 305's come with 416 heads?
Why did the LG4 only have 8.6 cr when the L69 had 9.5?

in 1985, all the 305's got the 9.5:1 flattop four valve relief pistons. the 82-84 lg4's were the 8.6:1 pistons.

So both engines used 416 heads?
My LG4 had dished pistons and 416 heads.

Si, are you sure that was a LG4? Those pistons definitely don't look like mine. I had .020 stamped dished pistons.

that means your engine had been rebuilt and bored .020" over, and it was filled with the wrong pistons

nope, .000 would be standard (actually, i don't think they stamp anything on them) but pistons are available in .020, .030, .040, and .060 sizes.

It sure isn't anything better. My car is VIN code H and as far as I'm aware it's the original engine. Next time I'm there I'll look for a casting number, though like mw66nova said, 85s got flat top pistons so I won't get my hopes up.

If you're concerned about what heads are installed, remove a rocker cover and look. It doesn't matter if ALL '85 305s came with 416s, only your's.

Looks like that engine could have used a little synthetic. Now it looks like it could use a little hot-tank time.
