High compression woes

First, let me be clear, I have no problem with my engine and it's high compression. My question is: which problems are the biggest with your high compression engine given todays crappy gasoline quality?
1. Hot restart problems.
2. Engine diesels (runs on after ignition cut off).
3. Pinging on light acceleration.
4. WOT rattle (pinging on heavy acceleration).
5. Constant detonation at all speeds.

While I wouldn't consider 10.0:1 (mine) a HIGH compression ratio, it still gives me grief once in a while when it's good and hot. What CR do you have?

I haven't really had any of the problems listed, and I might have what some would considered 'high compression'. I have a 350 with just under 11:1 compression and iron heads.

Mine might be a freak, but I've never had any of the problems listed above. The only real headaches I've had with it are:

A) Keeping the tune absolutely spot-on to avoid your listed problems
B) Paying for premium

My 10:1 has a crappy tune still, so I can't be totally fair in my accusations... Hot starting isn't great, but i'm using the stock 1982 305 starter, so it's not really fair.... I said WOT rattle, as it does that when I punch the gas at low RPM, load, high gear.... Maybe I should just not do that...

Any engine with proper tuning shouldnt exhibit any of those issues.

U will need a real mini type or high torque equivelant starter however.

Pushing much more than 10-1 on the street with pump gas on Gen 1 chevies is a careful proposition when it comes to tune and fuel quality

11.1:1 static. Can't get the cam opening & closing angles to calculate dynamic C/R. It should be less than 9:1 with the 108' LSA the cam has.
