Timing question?
I finally implanted my 350 and got it running but i do not know what to set the timing at.
It is from a 93 caprice TBI now its a hotrod 350 4bbl... I shot it with a gun but the timing mark didnt even show up.
My question is What do you set the timing for on the motor in my sig...93 caprice motor carbed... manual tranny...
And what do I know about my timing mark not showing up.
I have an adjustable taming tab I bolted it up and havent moved it... just wondering how do I know where to adjust it lol
thanks

Set the timing to where it runs the best. Which is usually somewhere around as far advanced as it will go without pinging.
If the mark doesn't work, then it's going to be pretty hard to give you some "number" and expect it to be meaningful, eh??
Most likely you have a mismatch of balancer and timing cover; specifically, the mark on the balancer is at 12:30 when #1 is at TDC, but your adjustable pointer is expecting it to be at 1:30. Or, your balancer's outer ring has slipped.
Only way to adjust an adjustable timing mark, is to put the motor at TDC, and set it to point at 0.
You can get an approximate idea of where it is though, by looking at the crank key: it's EXACTLY IN LINE with the #1 & 2 rod journal. So when it points at 45°, i.e. exactly in line with the left bank cylinders, it's at #1 & #6 TDC. If the mark on the balancer is 30-odd degrees away from the keyway, then it's the 12:30 type balancer, and your adjustable probably has about 2" too little of adjustment to work right with it.
