first day out part 2

Well my first day with tags and i drive a 45 mins drive to and from and overheat but it only overheats when im going like 35 and up. I get gas the car wont start get a jump and the volts stay at like 10-11 then i get to the place im going and i have to get another jump. Tighten the terminals now it reads 12 but never gets to 14 like all the other camaros i seen. It has a new water pump, radiator, hoses, thermostat, and fan switch, and fresh coolant but no air dam i think thats the reason for the overheating not to sure about the charging issue though. the battery is about couples months old and gets started once a week when it didnt have tags.

overheating is mostly the air dam.
with your cooling system mods i'd think it wouldn't be a big deal unless you're booking it on the highway. Your fan(s?) go on at 180* right?

so you can drive for a while fine, but once you shut it off you need a boost, or will it die while driving?
I think your battery isn't holding a charge, and most likely your cables are probably corroded pretty bad. Get a set of cables first, you're probably overdue, battery to ground (motor, alt bracket, whatever), and battery to starter. Clean your terminals with baking soda while you're at it, and get a little packet of that "countermans battery terminal grease", or vaseline, and goop up your terminals before you put the new cables on.
Then, if it runs ok, but won't restart, then it's the battery, but if it'll die while driving then it's your alternator (and maybe battery as well).

Hope that helps.

It should be putting out 14 volts if the regulator and alternator are working correctly. Especially with a weak battery.

My battery is a bosche and it is great, a few years old. my gauge says right below 13 (like 12v) all of the time. I can run the stereo full blast with 2 amps (no subs though) 240w x2 6x9's and 120w x2 4x6's. and she still starts up just fine after 4 hours. I have never tried longer than 4 hours with the stereo being on... but that's just me and my battery. but if you're needing a jump, it may be bad cells in the battery, or it needs water. also, if your car is hard to start when hot, read your haynes/chilton manuals... mine used to be hard to start when hot, i forgot how i fixed it (a few years ago)

ive seen this problem in the past i have done booth ways but if money is tight like around here im going to sugest that usually if it is not a part failure it is a ground issue there are lots of grounds on these cars an the factory did not clean the paint away from these grounded areas so if the car has set alittle crosion goes along ways start with this and replace anything with crosion leading beyound the terimal or up into the wire places like the engine harness cut back till you have good wire an soder in batt terms disconnected other wise you are shooting in the dark an this problem could haunt you for a while an have big bucks wrapped up. good luck an keep us posted

new battery alternator is fine

checked the alternator by disconnecting the battery while it was running and it stayed running fine. So the alternator is fine and the battery is brand new. Its weird ill drive it for a couple of miles cut the engine off then it doesnt start no clicking nothing as if the starter is dead. When it cools down like 3-4 hours later it will start right back up. and whenever it hasnt started if i jump the car it will fire right up
