**** poor timing, get the light!
do you have the stock computer controlled carb and distributor, or have either been changed?
Assuming it's all stock stuff, reset your timing with the EST connector unplugged, to the "stock" number, and go from there. Get rid of any bogs/hesistations, then work on getting it faster.

do a search on "EST plug". You'll find a plethora (lots) of information.
It's the plug about 1.5' away from the distributor. The 4 wires coming away from the distributor, to the computer, goes to a weatherpack plug, with the car idling, you unplug it, and set the timing to whatever it says on your sticker underhood. Say it's 4* or something, then plug that back in.

no, probably not. But if you haven't set your timing with a light, you have no idea where it is, and that *is* a problem which is/will rear it's ugly head and give you all sorts of symptoms. Fix that known problem first, then look into other problems.

i had the starter out and the connections were dirty and kinda loose. the ignition bolt on the starter has that goofy looking washer, it was on the back behind the wires isnt that supposed to be on the front to hold that from coming loose? im thinkin it aint starting cause it aint gettin the signal from ignition by being loose or resting in front of that washer.... does that seem like it would be a prob?

Does that hesitation start after the car is fully warmed up and gets worse the longer you drive it? If so, I had the same problem on my 82. Problem went away after switching to a regular q-jet carb. And yes, the stock q-jets in these cars do have a TPS, the little pin under the accelerator pump arm actuates it. Do a search on how to test it either here or on Google.

you ain't got VATS, they didn't have it for 84's
and yeah, timing could cause your hesitation
i need a timing chain on my 383 big block Fury (i can see the mark jumping around a lil bit), every once in awhile it will hesitate off the line

oh man, you're all over the place here.
What's your problem, starting or driving?
Starting - maybe shim it, was the starter a stock replacement? Was it the right one? Jump power to the solenoid (but not the starter!!) and force the tooth to jump out of the starter, and engage the flexplate/flywheel. See if you can get a paperclip inbetween the teeth. Shim as needed there.
Hesitation - did you check the timing yet?

yeah its a stock replacement... im trying to get it started. i havent tryed timing it yet... it fit right in with the fly wheel and i can feel it engage with the teeth of the flywheel, but makes a grinding noise.... have no idea.. i wanna get it started but cant sumthings messed up
sounds kinda like it needs shimmed a little. and now that you know u havea TPS
make sure you set that right, that being set wrong or bad would make it idle at 1500 or more. good luck on the car man. sounds like ur having a blast with it
