Gas Trouble

Hey Guys i have a 1985 T/A with a 305 5.0 TPI/FI engine after goin down to the local hardware store picken up some aluminum dryer vent tubing because was starting to lose hope in the car and want to hear it run.

Hooked up the maf sensor plugged it in connected tubing to the throttle body (no airfilter) (spent the other day removing a 1987 cobra car alarm and rewiring the ingnition wires.) Anyways i get it started all runs great i run it at 1500 rpms to get it system flushing then i slowly crank it up 2000 rpms bring it up 2500 rpms and begin to smell gas (figured since didn't run for about 5 years that be fine since flushing out the system. This is aftyer 20 mins i figured alright lets rev the engine to see what this baby sounds like i get it up to 3000 rpms then the engines dies down to point where the car just choked it self idles back at around 700-900 rpms

After that happened i turned off the engine and went out and inspect most noticble problem areas.

Duel Exshaust= Driver side fine (Passenger side under pipe was wet and smelled of gas Not from tank could see that it was blown out)

Oil= Was blackish grey smelt of gas

Engine= Behind header on passenger side closest to fire wall was smoking duno if burning crap off the engine or oil was leaking. There were a few wet spots on the engine but i let it ran again and had my friend idle the engine at 2000 rpms nothing was notisbly leaking out.

Any ideas of what it might be? i hopen not a blown head gasket.

Gaskets are likely fine. I'd ditch that dryer vent tubing, unless it has some strong steel wire or something or its just going to collapse if it already hasnt. Probably why it choked at 3k RPM.

how much gas is in the tank?

I'd bring a jerry can of 87 octane, and fill it up.
I'd check the oil level, and dump in a quart of diesel if you can, or drain a bit of oil so you can fit that in. Start it and let idle for 30 seconds, then shut it down and drain the oil. Change oil and filter.

When it hasn't been run in that long, I wouldn't trust anything it does as anymore then fresh start woes. Just flush and change all the fluids and let it stretch its legs a bit, keeping a close eye on fluid levels and gauges.

Oh yea, i'd dump some seafoam into the gas tank as well. You can put seafoam in the crankcase instead of the diesel if you like.

oh, change the fuel filter when you're doing the oil filter too.
oh and the plugs, those definately need replacement

Would of never thought of mixen Diesel with oil always thought would gum up the engine i'll give that a try also should i put fresh oil in the T/A let it run for a half hour and change the oil again to make sure all the crappy dirty oils out? With that also should i throw some high octain gas in car to help clear up fuel lines with also Fuel Injections Cleaner?

Damn Sea Foam seems to be a mans best friend i'll pick up a bottle 2marro.

diesel is a good cleaner. It'll break down all the crud in your crank case. Old trick my dad taught me.

You can just flush it with new oil, but that won't really clean, it'll just kinda "rinse" I guess... And it's more expensive.
Seafoam has 3 uses, each one takes 1/3 of the can.. Coincidence? I think not.
I'd use seafoam in the tank, maybe even through a vacuum line (all 3 uses), rather than using hi test gas in the tank.
