Its hard to explain but here goes...
Used a piece of hose the noise is hmmmm like chattering comming from behind the water pump or like chhhh chhh chhhhh rattle rattlechhhh chhhh...gezzz lol. when rev motor goes away . sometimes there sometimes not..

Yes i listened to all the pullys and listen to front of water pump nothing ...But the noise is comming from behind the pump..Only had the car about 2 months.don't know to much history the car is completly stock accept for the flowmaster..117,000miles
Well tonight i was sitting in traffic and my temp went to 220 and a little over.For the 2 months i have had it it always stayed a t 180 solid ..And yes fan was running..Can water pump go bad and not leak??? Lifted hood no noise.
Shut car off restarted noise was back..hmmm

Yes water pumps can go bad without leaking. usually the impeller can deteriorate...not very common but not unheard of either. take the belt off and start it up, see if the noise goes away. if it does start checking components on the accesory belt...if the noise doesn't go away that just eliminated a few possibilities...it's also a possibility that the timing chain is getting stretched and slapping the cover.

Timing chain was where I was going. Taking the belt(s) off to see if the noise goes away is the most logical first step.
220 is slightly below the typical fan turn-on temp of 238 F.

I havent done the belt thing yet waiting for weekend if it is timming chain is it worth fixing on an 87 with 117,000 or should the swap to no computer be thought about?? i have a feeling the water pump is going bad but the belt test will tell us
