Engine Wont Start

So, I tore out the entire interior of my poor bird, and now it wont start. Included in the "tearing out process" was the steering wheel (and assorted cables), and all the pieces of the center column. I'm a total n00bie with engines because I've just started learning, and she was running before we tore everything out, so could taking out any of those pieces have caused this? Oh yeah, the battery is brand new, so its not the culprit...Someone suggested it may be the starter motor and to give it a good whack...How do I find it on my car?

Symtoms: Wont start, makes no noise whatsoever...No click, no grumble, no turnover no nothing.

Sorry to ask such a basic question, but I'd really like to be able to start her so I can start on bodywork...

(Oh yeah, not carburated )

PS - I'm in Canada so its FREEZING outside if that helps

Thanks!

Matthew

check your ignition switch, if it worked before and you take the steering columb apart and now it doesnt work, its obivously in the columb.

PS: where in canada?

EDIT: doesn anything work when you turn your key to the ON position, the fan, lights, radio?

I'm in Markham personally (near Toronto). Yes, the lights come on, and the fan does too...The car didn't have a radio when I bought it :P, and I havent had time to put one in. I didn't mess around with the columb at all though, asside from taking the steering wheel off. I wanted to put the old style one on it so I sold the new styled one that came with the car. The new wheel has no wires or anything but I figured I could tackle that at a later point in time.
