You have an '87 TA with a stock 305, (what induction on it now, carb?), and a 9" rear? Who put that in there on a stock 305??

How much power are you looking at? Want to step up to a 350, or are you planning on keeping the 305?
Fix the bottlenecks first, biggest grins/$ there.
We're talking exhaust, rear gearing, camshaft. Then maybe heads, and a performer RPM intake. Carb would be pretty low on the upgrade list, along with ignition. Not a lot of speed/$ on those.

It's got a 4 brl carb and i put the 9inch rear end in it. I kinda want to keep the 305 for now theres other things i want to get done to it before engine swap I'm more or less looking for ways to make it a little more powerful and have some fun with the little honda rice burners around town
that and used 350's are hard to come buy in my area

In ontario? Uh, alright...

Does it have the stock Q-jet on it, or an aftermarket carb?
Either way, like I said, it's not the bottleneck, so I wouldn't waste any cash changing it. Do exhaust, it's still useful after you inevitably swap to a bigger motor in there. I'd avoid anything specific to the 305.

Buy Hooker 2055's and a 3" catback of your liking. Then for $100 I will port your intake manifold :P but you pay return shipping!

You have a roller or flat tappet cam?

I'm not wise to ontario, but F-bird'88 is in ontario, and there is a board for that region. Maybe ask there. I would just drop by a pick-a-part, they would have a complete motor for $130. Or ask the local machinist for a machined 350 block. Realize the machine work is done, so the price of $700 or so is quite fair. etc etc.

I think an '87 with a carb would be flat tappet, but i'm not totally sure. That's definately a good upgrade there.

bore the block out .060", get new heads and a thin headgasket. update that stock intake and carb. get some headers and cat-back system. after those mods youll be in the hole 5G's and have a 450lbs/ft car...true story. but if your on a budget...you dont have to do that boring job.

PS: hows the weather in ontario

I spent $650 on my LB9 Iroc, and did the following upgrades:
LT1 Cam
LT1 Roller Lifters
Comp Valve Springs
Ported TPI Plenum
Air Foil
Edelbrock TES Headers
3.42 10 bolt rear differential
G92 Oil Cooler
Taylor Ignition Cables
MSD Distributor Cap & Rotor
MSD Blaster Coil

Car should dyno around 195rwhp, and about 275rwtq

Not bad in my opinion. I did the complete cam swap myself (im 16) with the engine in the car, and bolted all of the parts on.

There's a thread on the FAQ forum about the differences between 305's and what to do to improve performance.
