Car won't start!
I'm just pulling my Camaro out and getting ready for spring.
I swapped motors last fall and it ran fine. When the snow melted, I threw a new intake and carb on it. I also put a new cap, rotor, and coil on. Now it won't run. I'm getting gas and spark. It should be close to properly timed. All I've gotten out of it was a few flames through the carb.

flames through the carb means the timing is way off. Recheck your plug wires are on right, you might be off one tower, maybe two.

I pulled the cap off and turned the motor over by hand until the timing mark on the harmonic balancer was at 0 degrees. The rotor was facing directly right. Then I put the plug wires on starting with the number one plug wire on the tower closest to the end of the rotor.

thats great and all but how did you check to make sure that cylinder 1 was on the compression stroke? as in both valves closed?

I pulled off the valve cover and checked.
Great news, I don't have spark anymore! I don't know where the problem lies at the moment, gotta get a tester tomorrow to find out where the problem is. Stupid question but where exactally does the "Batt" wire go to?

Re: Car won't start!
okay first off if your getting flames out of the carb you ARE getting spark just not at the right time so your timing is off there is no other way to get flames out of the carb... IE plug firing when the intake valve is open. how did you check spark? did you check every plugwire or just one? i bet you still have spark or did something to disable it you HAVE cylinder 1 at the wrong instance of TDC there is no way around that... as you didnt check for compression while aligning cyl 1 and only looked at the valves that is the problem...move all of the plugs at least one tower clockwise and i bet you see an improvement if not completely solved

Re: Car won't start!
I had spark when there were flames coming out of the carb. After replacing the cap,(MSD) rotor, and coil, (ACCEL), I lost spark. I had power to the cap but nothing to any of the plugs. went down to Advanced auto with the dizzy, cap, rotor, and coil. they tested everything and found that I had broken the tip off of one of the wires from the dizzy to the cap. replaced that part and brought it home. I havn't had a chance to throw it all back together. Hopefully it'll start when I get home

Re: Car won't start!
I fixed the spark problem (bad wire to distributor cap)
new problem, car still won't start!
I'm getting spark, and fuel is coming out of the carb.
after trying to start it, i pulled out the front 2 plugs and they're dry. where's the gas going?
