im interested in installing headers that are on order already, i need to find the casting number in order to tell weather my 305 has d ports rectangle oval ect, where is this number located??

Under your valve covers.

If you would have put your car information in your profile, so it shows up on your sidebar, I could have saved you the time and told you right away...

They'll either be 416's if you have an early carbed motor, 187 if you have TBI engine, or 081 if you have the later TPI setup.

I'm pretty sure they're all considered D ports, but it doesn't matter in the slightest really.

The only factory head that needs a Dport shaped exhaust flange is the Corvette L98 aluminum heads. (113)

sorry im new to this, and i have the 89 rs 305 tbi. i was under the assumption that it had square or slightly rectangular ports.

Yea you have the 187 heads. AFAIK it's the "normal" factory SBC port. I guess it would be called square?
