problems/value
i got a 1988 camaro 5spd 305 TBI
im a kid so i dont kno what im talkin about but my crossmember bolt the one that goes to the transmission mount was gone so my transmission was banging real loud i got a new bolt for it and tightened it so it doesnt bang no more but then i saw something dangling like in between the motor and transmission and its connected to some long thing that goes down the middle of the car(under it) so when i shift something comes up and hits inbetween the 2 back seats (beacause thats where the sound cmes from) i think its my transmission but i dont kno does anyone kno what it is or how to fix it
then theres a bolt in my oil pan thing and i guess it leaks and the people before me had it and they used silicon to patch it but i hit it on a hill today and now it leaks pretty bad if someone knows how to fix that without gettin a new oil pan can u tell me
then my high beams dont work only my low beams do and i dont think they are blown because its both of them not just one out
also when i shift it makes funny noises.. like the thing squeals or something its weird
and i flipped my fuel injection thing upside down because someone told me it makes it faster but im thinkin if i take my whole intake off like the air filter and everything it will be even faster is that a good idea or not and are there other tricks like that to make it faster..
i also have to have the rpms real high like at 5500 RPMs or the car clunks in first gear idk how to fix that either..
anyone wanna help me??

Re: problems/value
okay slow down there buddy first we will work with the oil pan
that bolt is probably the drain plug so either it is stripped or the gasket is gone... the gasket costs like 60 cents, if you did damage to the oil pan by hiting it on a hill then you need a new oil pan and shouldnt run the car
-----
now your air filter put it the way it is supposed to be no need to flip it or anything like that
------
now for the bad news
that clunk you are experiencing could be a few thing from very minor to very major...
you need to look at the torque arm and make sure it is secure... it runs from the back of the tranny to the rear axle...
but you shouldnt need to rev the car to 5500 in first there just isnt a need for that on the street and that clicking could be alot of things depending on where it is coming from
------
now the tranny that noise could be tranny syncs or throw out bearing.
----
my suggestion to you would be to bring this to a shop and have it looked over if you have the money... if not depending on what state you are in i would bring it back to the Prior owner and tell him that you want your money back if you were under the impression you could drive this thing home
as i bet you will spend a couple grand chasing down just the safety stuff to get it inspected

Re: problems/value
well that torque arms sounds right cuz it goes from the rear to the tranny and where its connected to the tranny something was broke off there and hangin then i just shoved it back up and kept drivin
i think the drain plug is just a gasket because it looks as if they used a gasket maker and it just came off some ..ill just re do it or put a real gasket on it i need an oil change anyway
also ive been divin it for like 3 days and all the noise and crap isnt makin it not run and its still really really fast and im not losing power but i dont know
also i dont need to get it inspected

Re: problems/value
why dont you need to get it inspected?
after transfering ownership of any vehical the inspection is no longer valid and if you get pulled over for driving "really really fast" the nice police officer will figure out why your inspection sticker is older than your registration
but i am serious about the oil pan if it is deformed in any way it should atleast be taken down and inspected or serious engine damage may occur

when we went to get tags..it was a gift so they said we dont need it inspected and gave us tags
well the leak is comin from that bolt im pretty sure but its all black around it so im not sure the exact point so i may need a new one
is the torque arm anything major... also do i have air shocks? because the car sits like 2 inches off the ground.. idk if its suppose to be that low

Re: problems/value
go to you local parts store and get a new drain plug, maybe what they call an oversized one, but also check it you make sure you don't have any other leaks
also fix your tourqe arm, there is no sense driving around a peice of crap just because you don't care to fix it, you probably need a new bushing, which to my knowledge is only available from Energy Suspension but maybe the mount it goes in is broken
finally all shocks from about the about early 60's on are known as "air shocks" and they don't sag or sit low when they are bad to a degree, also they are filled with nitrogen, unlike the old hydraulic units they replaced which can sit low when they're bad, and you you may have "air adjustable shocks" which you can add air to make the ride stiffer,
you may jack the car up and check to see if it has a broken spring on it, but these cars normally sit very low to the ground, im a skinny guy and i can't hardly even get under mine withought jacking it up
anyways good luck, your probably going to be well off if you find someone in your area about your age with a similar interest in cars, make buddies with him/her so you two can work on cars together, its always nice to have someone helping you and watching your back
