port job

i have aluminum heads from an 90 vette. Im thinking about porting the heads out.

1st, will this be a very good upgrade?
2nd, how much should a port job cost?
3rd, are there different stages of port jobs?

also with a port job, will have to change any of the valvetrain?

Re: port job

This should probably be moved to the general engine board, but since im here:

It is a good upgrade, if you work it right, you can make those heads breathe alot better.

Not sure about cost though, I did my Brodix heads on my own. There are very specific guidelines you have to follow though, its not just all about removing material.

Valvetrain, no you dont need to change anything provided that all you are doing is porting the heads.

I agree, not sure how much you'll improve on your 400RWHP and 500RWTQ though,

Yea, well, good luck with that. Did you dyno your current motor? Not trying to be insulting, but those '90 Vette heads are the L98 AL ones IIRC. I think those flow in the 205CFM range or something? I have a real hard time believing your 400RWHP dyno #, hence why i'm leery on thinking you'd hit 500RWHP after porting them.

Re: port job

They were the L98 aluminum ones.

You won't be fetching 106hp with a port job, unless you are going 100shot of spray too.

Expect around 10hp from the mod if it is done right. 20hp is a three pointer from half court, but I've seen it done before.

Re: port job

dyno @ 394rwhp and 479 rwtorque
I think you mean flywheel hp, not rearwheel hp.
That would be about 315rwhp.
