Burnout for nooby me!
Don't make fun of me, but I've never done a burnout... yet!
So I heard with RWD you need to feather the brakes. Is this true?
Explain...
-Thanks, peace out!

Brake Torque - I hold my brake with gas and slowly let off the brake until my tires spin?
If that's what your explaining, I think I got it..

Re: Burnout for nooby me!
yeah you got it, just stop and with your foot on the brake hit the gas and the tires will start spinning, you can adjust weather your moving or standing still and how fast your wheels spin by changeing brakeing pressure and if needed changing throttle and sometime gears.
if your just doing a burnout on the street thats all you need to know, but if this is for at the track there are a lot more rules to go by, like dont go in the waterbox if you have street tires it wont help you at all. an if you are useing slicks when exiting the box try not to just let off the gas realy quick coming out or you will shock the trans when the tires hook realy quick

Re: Burnout for nooby me!
for BEST results and for the regular racer, get a line lock.. no burned rear brakes and no extra load on the trans.. and like everyone else says, with street tires, dont touch the water.. if you do, you better spin the tires fast enough to get the water out of the thread grooves.. for me and my drag radials, 6k in second(about 60mph) gets the job done..

Street tires at the track: Stay out of the water. Reports vary on the effectiveness of burnouts with street tires - conventional wisdom on this Board says just turn them enough to clean off the tread, Tony Pedregon says "Light 'em up!" ( https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/orga...-burnouts.html )

Re: Burnout for nooby me!
Its not good to powerbrake the car. What i usuraly do is hold the brake and stomp the gas and let off the brake. Even my wornout 305 car will leave 2 sollid black marks.

Re: Burnout for nooby me!
It is hard on the transmission, rearend and rear brakes. If you have posi it will also wear out the clutches in the posi. If you have a good running motor then you should be able to stomp it and spin them prety good.

Re: Burnout for nooby me!
haha, i've gotta get a digital camera... Mine will burn 'em in 2nd gear (first is wayyyy too short), but I'm not sure from a complete stop... Gotta tweak the carb some.
But yea, a burnout is just punching it from a stop.
A brakestand is when you use the brakes to do it.
At the track, you'll want to do a brief brakestand, in front of the waterbox, just to clean off the tires.
A TPI 305 in decent running condition should have no problem doing that.
