Re: Oil

I use K&N performace gold oil filter it runs about 10-12 bucks. Then for the oil I use syn power valvoline 10W30. 5.50 a quart.

Most anything on the shelf that's SAE 10W-30 and API SH or higher changed at 3000 mile intervals is going to be "good enough". If you want to know what oil to use for some particular conditions you intend to subject your car to, that's a different question.

There has been a lot of talk about avoiding Fram filters ("orange can of death"), but I have yet to see a documented incident of failure of one of their filters. Most anything on the shelf that is listed for your application is going to be "good enough". If you want to know what filter to use for some particular conditions you intend to subject your car to, that's a different question.

I wouldn't bother with any "high mileage" oil. They are pure marketing fluff, more money in their pockets/less in yours. I also wouldn't recommend any synthetic put out by the major oil companies; if you want to use synthetic, get it from (in no particular order) Mobil 1, Red Line, Royal Purple, or AMSOIL. The rest are "wannabe's".

Re: Oil

I have always had no problem with Wix filters. With 130K miles I would be cautious using a synthetic. It will not do damage and I am not suggesting to avoid it, I use it in my 89 Bird and my 06 Monte SS but it's properties can allow the engine to have lots of oil leaks unless the engine is sealed real well.

That was an issue with the early Mobil 1 formulas. Hasn't been an issue for years.

It's really a toss-up. The Mobil 5000 is a low-cost alternative, made of the same stuff as the wannabe's. It's not "bad" stuff, just not as good as a PAO synthetic (like the brands I mentioned).

If you're willing to pay for the Mobil 5000, and it isn't causing any problems that you can tell, then go ahead and continue with it. I haven't heard anything about Bosch filters, but I don't have problems with their stuff in general.
