Cam and Timing Set Problems

Hey,

Im sorta in a bind right now and need help fast!! I bought a retro-fit camshaft for a roller 350 block that I have, thinking that it was a roller cam. Now, When I go to install my camshaft, I cannot use the stock thrust plate, because my cam doesnt have a snout or a step for it to go through the plate in order to get my cam sprocket on. I bought a cam button and lock plate now, but I don't know which timing set to buy, any recommendations???

Thank you

Chris

Re: Cam and Timing Set Problems

Only a timing set for a non-factory roller cam will bolt to your retro roller cam.

Re: Cam and Timing Set Problems

yeah i tried one for an 1980 chevy with a 350, but it turns out that the middle hole for the button is too small for the button to go through. I forgot to mention that I have a 350 vortec motor if that helps

heres the cam

heres the button I bought

Re: Cam and Timing Set Problems

K here is are 2 better questions:

1) In which order do the cam button and lockplate go in? Is it

a) Cam-->Gear-->Button-->Lockplate?
b) Cam-->Gear-->Lockplate-->Button?

2) Is the cam button supposed to be flush with the cam sprocket or is it supposed to be sticking out??

Thanks

If you use a lock plate, it goes in after the cam button.

2.) No, the cam thrust button is supposed to have it's nose sticking out. That is what prevents the camshaft from "walking" forward. It sticks out to hit the back of the timing cover.

You're not using a stock timing set, are you?
