fuel issiue

ok its a 91 camaro rs 305 auto tbi. it ran good and i went to start it the other day and it was hard to start and then died a few min later after idleing. it wouldnt start back up and its getting no fuel. i no longer hear the fuel pump coming on either anymore. i checked the fuse its good. in my haynes manual it has the direction for running a power wire to a spot on the diagnostic box but where it shows to put the wire there isnt a metal clip in that spot. im wondering y? and is there any other way to test whether its my pump or relay?

thanks steve

Re: fuel issiue

yes i believe that the ecm will bypass the relay once the engine sees 4 psi of oil pressure so it might take 5-6 secounds of cranking to get the pressure but dont take my word for it i havent needed to test it

Re: fuel issiue

Where's it show your clip? Should be rear left engine compartment by the relays. To the left (outside) of your brake booster and behind your strut tower. The connector takes a spade (flat) fitting.

Look in the engine bay right in front of where the driver sits and by the relays that are mounted to the firewall. There should be a single wire with a connector at the end of it connected to nothing. That's your fuel pump test port. Apply 12 volts to it and the pump should keep running.

My 89 Bird 305 TBI has fuel pump prime, it is a red wire to the normally closed contact in the relay, it is in the ALDL don't remember off hand which term. I used it to drain my tank for a pump upgrade.

Terminal "G" on my '88s ALDL connector.
My pump wasn't priming last night so I tried the test terminal, but it didn't work, I've used it to drain the tank as well, so I know it should work.
I removed the relay and jumpered the org and tan/wht wires, I could hear the pump trying to turn, but wouldn't, the jumper just got hot. Fortunately I have a "hacked access door" so pulling the pump out is no problem.
