Main bearing help

I Built a 355 shortblock for my camaro about three years ago. It took me a while to save money for the rest of the parts. Thinking back I'm not sure if I set the thrust bearing ....I did in preassembly . Is there a way I can check this without removing rods, cam , balancer etc. Can I just loosen the main caps and give the crank a whack with a rubber mallot foward and back to set the thrust? thanks

If you loosen the rear main cap, that's what's controlling thrust, the rest of the stuff won't matter.
